Barry Becken and Larry
Fortunoff are avid sailors and experienced businessmen.
Larry Fortunoff is a U.S. Licensed Master Mariner, boat
builder, inventor and Captain with over 30 years
offshore and coastal experience. Larry
owns and operates a sailing charter between islands on the
coast of Maine & the W. Indies.
Why the need for Winch Buddy?
In
2001 Larry developed a “tennis elbow” condition from
repetitive use of winching lines and halyards by means
of turning a common “winch handle”. After a couple of
months of physical therapy to cure the sore tendon,
Larry came up with the idea of utilizing a cordless
right angle power unit with a special double
square socket driver of Larry's own design which he
started using for the 2002 season.
Since inventing Winch Buddy, Larry has continued
sailing charters and has never been bothered
again with any sore muscles
from using the winches constantly. His sailing
companions and customers as well have encouraged Barry
Becken and Larry Fortunoff to bring this idea to the
general boating market which is now worldwide and includes hundreds of satisfied sailors.
